Abu Garcia Revo Reel
revo-ins-lg1.jpg

Description: This new Revo Inshore baitcasting reel from Abu Garcia has been creating quite a stir lately! This is definately a SLICK new reel!! A couple of us, here in the shop have spent years and years in the shallow back bays, targeting Striped Bass on light tackle and this reel is just PERFECT for that application. Compared to the reels that we used to use, like Shimano Curado's and Chronarch's... this one has many advantages. It has a lower profile than the typical baitcaster, so it feel nicer in your hand, it holds more line than any other reel in it's class, these reels have 6.4:1 gear ratio and an unbelievable amount of power for a reel of it's size... much more drag power (24 pounds) than comprable reels. It's light in weight and very, very smooth. The Revo was designed for saltwater use, so it's as tough in the freshwater as it is in the salt! Additionally, it's LESS EXPENSIVE than most other reels in it's class. OH... and there is a $20 rebate offer from Abu as well as a FREE T-shirt! Stop by https://www.causewaybaitandtackle.com/Fishing_Reels_c_108.html to see our full line of fishing reels.

Nice Combo Sunglasses

Description: HaberVision Nice Combo Sunglasses Out of all the equipment that outdoorsmen use to make their trips a success, a good pair of sunglasses has to be one of the most important. The stereotypical image of black plastic fishing glasses probably entered into your mind a time or two when you first read the title of the article but there is a lot more to a quality pair of fishing sunglasses than you may know. First and foremost, any good pair of glasses will reduce the amount of glare or eye strain along with protecting your eyes from harmful UV rays. But aside from the protection standpoint a quality pair of glasses will also allow you to spot fish and make out structures or features hidden under the water’s surface. Being able to clearly see the stream bottom you are about to fish will not only help you to fish more efficiently; but also help you to wade the respective stream more safely and easily. At first glance the Haber Vision Nice glasses have a sleek appealing classic rectangular design in a wrap style. Once you slip the glasses on you will immediately notice how light they are and how complete the lens coverage is for your field of vision. Traditionally problems are seen with most sports sunglasses leaving gaps where light comes in through the bottom, sides or top. The 8-base lens geometry that Haber Vision employs in its glasses allows very little in the way of peripheral light to bother your eyes. These Haber Visions Nice sunglasses also have a solid mid-sized frame that will not interfere or limit your field of view. With these special design enhancements and the anti-reflective and hydro repellant coatings placed on these lenses, these sunglasses have unequaled performance in the field. Another key attribute of these glasses is the fact that they are very stable on your face staying in place exactly where you put them. Nothing is more annoying than having a pair of glasses that continually falling off your face with every step you take. The Haber Vision Nice Series of glasses fit snug and sit tight. The great point about ordering the Nice combo set of glasses is that you don’t just get one set of frames with interchangeable lenses, this package comes complete with 2 different styles of glasses: Polarized Amber: Greatly increases contrast and color separation without harsh distortion of colors. The amber lens is great in bright or snowy conditions and especially good for shallow water sight fishing situations. Polarized Yellow: This is a high contrast polarization lens. The yellow lens is excellent for low light conditions or situations where precision work is being done like knot tying. The amber lenses are by far the best color of lens for general fishing purposes as they provide a lot of contrast allowing structures or fish to show up more noticeably in the water. For low-light scenarios such as overcast days or as night approaches, the yellow lenses are ideal and allow the drifting fly line to show up well into the evening hours. Tying on small dry flies or replacing a leader as the sun is going down is always a difficult task, but the yellow lenses make it easier to keep track of the tag end of line or the hook eye. As conditions change, swapping glasses is a quick and simple task and the carrying case keeps everything free from debris and harm. It is a nice touch that the inside of the carrying case is made from a soft cloth that can be used to clean the lenses if needed. Lastly both sets of the Haber Vision lenses are virtually free of optical distortion. Fishing long periods of time in glasses that have a large distortion effect will cause discomfort for your eyes and most likely bring about a headache. Polarized glasses are simply not what they used to be. They offer that avid outdoorsman many advantages, from seeing clearer to complete eye protection. If you don’t own a pair get some, and if you do consider switching over to Haber Vision sunglasses. These glasses provide clear, crisp vision that is second to none. Price is not a restraint with these sunglasses either. Haber Vision sunglasses are extremely affordable and provide you with the option of customizing your glasses to fit the conditions.
Shakespeare X Tools (Hybrid X Pliers and Floating Cutters)

Description: Shakespeare X Tools (Hybrid X Pliers and Floating Cutters) There are a few essential items on the market that serious fisherman have learned to never leave home without. Whether it be bluegills, trout, or salt water game fish that you chase, these few special items make you days fishing not only easier but much more enjoyable. A good set of fishing pliers is one of these special fishing necessities, saving you time and trouble adjusting baits and setting up lines and keeping you precious hands out of harms way. Chances are you have probably never given much thought to the pliers you carry in you old tackle box but the new X tools by Shakespeare might just change that. Shakespeare rods, accessories and tools certainly are popular among anglers over the last few decades due largely in part to their high quality products and these tools keep up with this high standard of quality. Their previous generations of tools were among the best values on the market, and the new Hybrid X Pliers and Cutters feature carbide cutting blades and still manage the same great price. Design: The new design of the X series of tools makes these tools easy to handle no matter how intricate the work is that you are doing. Problems crimping shots or opening split rings was not any factor when these pliers were tested. In addition to the ergonomic design of these pliers soft foam pads were placed on the handles of the X tools to allow comfort for the user. These pads make the x tools a pleasure to use and help the tools float high and dry. Field Test: The Shakespeare Hybrid X Pliers and Floating Cutters were tested in freshwater conditions and held up to plenty of abuse while fishing the rough waters of Lake Superior. Seeing as quality pair of floating fishing pliers are also a great idea for the fly fishing enthusiast wading the river the Hybrid X Pliers were also tested while fishing the many rivers and streams in this respected area. Operation: In essence all pliers and cutters are relatively simple to operate, and Shakespeare X tools following along with this tradition. The new tungsten carbide blades on both the pliers and the cutters makes cutting any mono and fluorocarbon lines, yes even braided line a breeze. Let me say that one more time, the blades on these tools have no problem cutting though braided line in the 60, 80 and even 100 pound classes. The design of the Hybrid X Pliers makes these pliers easy and smooth to open (one handed) allowing the angler to do a wide variety of tasks ranging from unhooking fish, tuning crank baits even tightening screws on the boats dash board. The Hybrid X Pliers also feature heavy set jaws with co-molded inserts that make it easy apply pressure on objects with out slippage. The lanyard attached to the tools bottom is great for keeping the tools where they can be most useful; at you side when you need them. Too many times with the scrabble that ensures while you have a fish hooked, the location of your tools can slip you mind. Having these pliers or cutters fastened to you wrist or waist will definitely make your days on the water more enjoyable. Toughness: Any half way decent pair of pliers or cutters should last a long time under normal circumstances. With that being said the main reason anglers have to replace their fishing pliers is because of dropping them into the water. With the new design and floats added to the handles the X pliers and cutters will not be visiting the lake bottom unless you do. Other then losing your favorite fishing tools corrosion is probably the next biggest problem. The X tools plastic design and tungsten carbide cutters should stay free of rust and in working order for many years of service. Overall: The Shakespeare X Tool line of Pliers and Cutters tested very well in the two different freshwater conditions and are in general very light and extremely durable. These pliers are a great idea for boaters, pond jumpers and fly fisherman alike. You get the best of all worlds with the X Tools, a product suited for heavy applications but without the added weight making them a valuable addition to your travel tackle box. The addition of floating handles and a wrist lanyard will help keep these tools at your side and you fishing happier, longer.

Cabela’s 400 Weight Fleece Wader Liner
wader1.jpg

Posted by: admin

Description: If you want to be warm, comfortable and ready to fish in the spring or fall months when cooler temperatures are present then it is important that you dress for fishing success. Although there has been many advancements to sporting clothing in the last few years the basic necessities for clothing haven’t changed much. Staying warm and being functional are still the main priorities. Anglers need clothing that will insulate the body from the cold without packing on bulk. Cabela’s 400 weight fleece wader liners are just such an item. These double fleece liners are comfy enough to wear around the house on a Sunday afternoon but warm enough to keep you fishing during the frozen winter months. One of the biggest problems associated with wader liners is that many styles do not have any way of anchoring the pants to your leg. Therefore, after a few hundred yards or so of walking you will find the liner uncomfortably creeping up your leg. As the liner creeps higher it also exposes your lower leg to the wader boot (if wearing boot foot waders) and that can cause a major rub point. Cabela’s 400 wader liners have incorporated foot stirrups and elastic lined cuffs to eliminate this creeping problem. As great as the stirrups and elastic cuff band work at keeping your pants from riding up; they work just as well at helping you get into and out of your waders quickly and smoothly. Stocking foot waders and wader boots like we all know can be a bit of a pain to slide on over bulky clothing, but with the elastic cuffs molding to your leg and the stirrups holding your pants in place makes getting your foot into these types of waders a breeze. The doubled lined fleece construction is also a nice addition to these liners, making them very warm and soft for the angler to wear for long durations while at the same time allowing moisture to be transported away from the skin to the surface where it will dry quickly. Additionally, since this fleece is made of synthetic fibers it will keep its shape, size and color wash after wash, which is nice seeing as this garment will be laundered a considerable amount of times over its useful lifespan. Last but not least these comfortable wader liners have a zippered rear pocket included into their respective construction. Most anglers simply put their car keys in there fishing vest, never thinking that when they start excitedly rambling through pockets looking for a hemostat or tape measure that they could drop their keys into the river. Having a place inside your waders that stays secure and dry for items like keys, licenses and other hard to replace items is very important and a nice feature of these liners. Overall, Cabela’s 400 weight fleece wader liners are a product that definitely lives up to what they are advertised to be: A comfortable and warm wader liner that can be used for many cold weather outdoor sports at a very affordable price.
Lock & Troll Lure System
lt1.JPG

Posted by: admin

Description: Swift Cast Fishing Products exciting new line of Lock & Troll lures, simply put makes any trolling fishing system more efficient, user friendly and fun to be out on the water with. The Lock & Troll lure system can be successfully fished in a vast array of techniques and can be deadly for salt and fresh water fish alike. At first glance the Lock & Troll lure system radiates quality with its high polished finish and finely machined parts. With many of the characteristics of traditional trolling lures, jigs and casting plugs the Lock & Troll lure has added many unique firsts into its construction such as universal head receivers along with customizable tails. This exclusive configurable system accommodates three different quick release heads and fishable bodies to fish your lure at the desired depth. It was easy to see just after a few minutes of setup and with the lines down that the Lock & Troll lure system was unlike and other lure I had tested to date. Design: The Lock & Troll lure system consists of a secure locking head receiver (3 different styles) that has a built in stainless steel ball bearing swivel. This head receiver will quickly and efficiently lock in place or release different tail sections in a matter of a few seconds. These interchangeable tail sections are designed to be outfitted with your favorite squid or tuna skirts. This releasable system is very easy to use for active anglers looking for the days hot color combination or getting new lures back in the water after landing a trophy fish. Additionally, the added fish attractant delivery system (a bored out tail section with a few small holes to leech attractant) can help put more and bigger fish on the end of your line. Materials: The Lock & Troll lure system spares no expense when it comes to materials used in its respective construction. The lightweight series of lures is made of aircraft grade anodized aluminum alloy while the heavy weight series is made of polished stainless steel. To say the least these lures are environmentally sound (no lead) and made tough. The Lock & Troll lure system was tested to the extremes going through numerous cycles of hammering and being rolled on with a truck. After the testing was over the receiver head still smoothly rotated and accepted different bodies while the tail section remained unblemished. Over all the lures handled the wear and tear great coming out of the whole ordeal with only a few scratches. Field Tests: Due to the sturdiness in the construction of the Lock & Troll lure it is obvious that this lure was originally designed to fish for big toothy saltwater species. With that being said why should a lure be limited to only one environment or fish type. Many of the most popular lures on the market today are able to effectively fish both fresh and salt water, so testing this lure in fresh water is only a logical step. The Lock & Troll lure system was designed to play into the predatory instincts of large predatory fish with its color combinations and fish ability. For this test it was taken to freshwater looking for hungry lake trout and salmon alike. Fishing Lock & Troll Lures: The Lock & Troll lure is useful for catching many different species of fish mainly because it can be fished in a wide range of configurations and techniques. First and foremost, the Lock & Troll Lures are designed to be trolled behind a boat, but that does not mean that they can not be jigged or even casted when the opportunity presents itself. Depending on the weather and water conditions the angler will have to decide which one of these techniques will work best. For all intensive purposes during this field testing the Lock & Troll lures were only trolled. Trolling Techniques: While the Lock & Troll lure can be used in many ways it is an absolutely incredible lure for trolling. This versatile lure is great for trolling for freshwater game fish by itself or in combination with dodgers, flashers or other trolling attractors. One of the key points with the ball bearing swivel head system is that this lure will never spin and twist your lead line making it a trouble free for even high speed trolling applications. When planning on fishing this lure deep anywhere between say 50 and 150 ft is a good idea to use some type of trolling attractor to help get fish to key on the bait. At those depths there is not much light so any way to stir up commotion and get fish to take a quick look at what you are offering will only help to get fish to bite. While 7 inch to 9 inch silver flashers are always a good choice for these types of conditions coupling the classic head to a medium body and dragging that behind a cow bell rig (7 Colorado blade rig) seemed to produce the most bites from Lakers. In shallower conditions trolling the Lock & Troll lures from Planer boards or behind Dipsy divers worked equally well with the salmon. Running the lures with the action heads and shorter squid bodies was all that was need to get the fish to bite down hard. Overall: All in all the Swift Cast Lock & Troll lures performed very well and beyond the expectations placed on them. All serious fishermen know that being able to quickly change color and size of lures is very important to staying in tune to what the fish actively feeding on. Whatever the weather or water conditions may be Lock & Troll lures give you the options to best fit your situation. Now is the time to think about changes to make you more successful next season. The Lock & Troll lure system will make your upcoming fishing experiences more enjoyable and much more productive.
Ching-A-Dero Fishing Rod Holder

Posted by: admin

Description: Pier fishing in salt water or dock fishing in fresh water is a good way for a non boater to fish and enjoy some time on the water. There is however one question we all ask ourselves. What do I do with my fishing rod or rods while my line is in the water? It gets tiring standing on the dock waiting for the fish to bite, holding that rod. These days you get a cell phone call, or want to have a drink or go into your tackle box to get an item. Or you have your kids with you and you have many fishing rods just lying on the dock. Laying your rod on the dock is not the best thing to do, you can step on it by accident, or worse yet kick it in the water. Plus if a pier or dock has a lot of people fishing at the same time someone else can step on your fishing rod. These instances would be a costly mishap. For years people have devised ways using bungee cords and other devices. These devices are ok but not ideal; you cannot quickly lift your rod out of a bungee cord to get a quick hook set. Let me introduce you to The Ching-A-Dero ® fishing rod holder made from corrosive resistant stainless steel which will slide securely onto any dock with a standard 2X4. This product was designed by pier fishermen for pier fishermen! It takes only seconds to set up, cast, and put your pole in the fishing rod holder that won't let you down. No more messing with clamps or ropes or bungee cords! So relax, enjoy a favorite beverage, and fishing with the best fishing rod holder out there! No longer will you have to bungee cord your rod to the pier railings or use clamps that mark the pier and get in the way when you get a fish on! It is easy to grab your rod and set the hook! Don't fumble and mumble! We attached the Ching-a-Dero® to a dock with a standard 2X4 railing in less than 4 seconds The Ching-a-Dero® comes to you with instructions to show how simple and easy it is to use. Easy on, Easy off fishing rod holder design and still fits in any standardized tackle box, so you can take it anywhere. Fits on any standard 2" X 4" pier or dock railing. Stainless steel and proudly made in America. The more rods you have the more Ching-A-Dero® fishing rod holders you'll need! Let your rods be attended to by the Ching-A-Dero® until you're ready to reel it in! Grab your buddies and plan your next fishing trip with the Ching-a-Dero® fishing rod holder!!! The Ching-A-Dero ® holds securely to any standard 2X4 Even a monster fish will not rip The Ching-A-Dero ® Loose. The Ching-A-Dero ® is Stainless steel and proudly made in America It will not corrode in salt environments. It is small and light enough to fit in any tackle box and take with you on every outing. From this angle you can see it holds the rod in place but yet allows for quick release of the rod when a hook set is needed. Overall we were happy with the Ching-A-Dero ® We give it thumbs up rating.

Slickmaster Chum Bucke
chum2.jpg

Posted by: admin

Description: Staff Review: As all my fishing buddies know, I am a real believer in chum buckets. In fact, we don't leave the dock without one. Chum buckets trickle out an odor into the water currents and carry for hundreds of yards behind the boat. Bits and pieces of chopped fish, squid, muscles, clams or dried blood, decoy all the predators in the area to our hooks. After the bucket is thrown over the first fish to show in the chum slick is smelt and perch. This is especially true around a kelp bed or over a productive rock on the bottom. Right behind the smelt and the perch come the big ones, the ones we want in the sack. I truly believe a bucket is better than throwing live bait. The big ones eat up the live bait quickly so a continual chum is necessary. Very quickly the live bait runs out. Of course that can happen so fast the fishing trip is over. If done properly a chum bucket can sit in the water for hours spilling out its' scent . On some of our shark drifts we can drift for 2-3 hours. Most of the time we can make a 5 gallon chum bucket last for 10 hours per fishing trip. One trick we use to make the bucket last longer is to pull the bucket out of the water when the bite starts. As the bite slows we put the bucket back into the water, which usually gets things going again. These intervals help save the bait and make trips a little longer. I like to grind up dead bait like anchovies. sardines, mackerel, squid. The bait can be purchased from the bait receivers in the harbor. The grinder is an old garbage disposal. It works perfectly by grinding the fish into a paste like condition. Now and then doses of fresh water are added as the bait goes through the disposal. Also on an occasion dried blood is added to the grinding procedure. The fresh water freezes into solid ice. We don't use saltwater because it wont freeze. The chum is placed into a five gallon bucket then frozen solid.About 4 very small holes are drilled around the bottom of the bucket so that very little chum pops out of the holes. As the chum thaws a "slick" of dust like particles drifts down current. A hole is drilled through the lid and the side of the bucket and a stout rope is knotted through the hole so that the lid stays intact. The other end is tied to a cleat while the bucket is sunken just off the corner of the boat. There have been times when we have had large chunks and pieces of fish carcasses that we want for chum, like albacore and other large fish remains. The bones and large chunks don't grind up readily but they really impart a great oily scent so we usually put the large chum chunks into one of our bait tanks. (We have two bags off the stern) The normal overflow spills the scent into the water. The trouble with that is, it cuts down on the amount of bait we need for hooking. The "Slick Master Chum Bucket" can be used with the large chum situation to help save the live bait. The bucket is a large 6.5 gallon size making it one of the largest capacity chum buckets on the market. It has random 3/4" holes drilled around the sides of the bucket to release the chum. The lid is threaded to screw onto female threads on the rim n. A "dog lever" prevents the lid from unscrewing. It runs over teeth like cogs on the lid. If you try to unscrew it the "dog" jams into the teeth preventing the lid from unscrewing. To unscrew the lid you depress the "dog" out of the teeth and the lid spins easily off in a counter clockwise direction. The containment rope is spliced to form a hoop and loops easily into the boats' mooring cleats making knot tying unnecessary. The bucket also has a large elastic restricting band that stretches over the top and further protects the lid from unscrewing. For the test we cut up about 10 pounds of frozen squid into one inch chunks and threw them into the bucket. We stopped at the bait receiver and loaded about 4 gallons of dead sardines into the bucket. At this point we pounded the whole mess into a paste like condition, using a short 2x4 board. We actually pounded too much as the chum later poured out the large holes and dissipated much too quickly. It took only 15 minutes to empty the bucket, which is much to fast. Where the bucket excelled was when we started throwing mackerel into it. As the mackerel came aboard we slashed them with a knife and threw them bleeding into the bucket. The mackerel were so catchable we filled that bucket up in 15 minutes and dumped it into the water. 6.5 gallons of mackerel is almost over-kill. Believe me though, there is no better chum than drifting mackerel blood and the nice thing is that there is hardly ever a time when mackerel are not on the scene. I know that mackerel trick is going to produce some mako sharks next spring. This particular trip produces many large calico bass mostly because of the mackerel in the chum bucket. I think the slow spill system works great but I also think the mackerel trick works just as well. Actually, if you wanted the slow spill system, you could throw frozen one gallon coffee cans with the ground up paste inside the Slick Master and achieve the slow release method. The Slick Master would take at least two gallon cans, maybe three. Besides that, gallon cans fit into hone freezers a heck of a lot easier than 5 gallon containers. We are finding a corner on the boat for the storage of the Slick Master. I'm very sure it will be used all the time.
